About Brad Blake

Brad Blake was born and raised right here in Durango and grew up working for a small, family-run business. Both he and his wife of 35 years, Janelle, grew up in La Plata County and feel a distinct privilege to be able to serve the families in the county. Today, Brad, Janelle and their three sons continue to run their own small business, Blake Mechanical Inc. As a result of his background in Durango, he has a unique vision for the county that stems from his 20+ years of business knowledge and family experiences.

Brad is a partner in a solar construction company, serves on the Florida Ditch Company Board as well as the Durango Food Bank board. When he’s not serving as county commissioner, Brad enjoys being outdoors and experiencing all of the activities that the Durango area has to offer such as hiking, skiing and fishing. Brad is proud to be running as a pro-family candidate and his top priorities are God, family and country.

The Issues

La Plata County has a diverse population which deserves a moderate voice and requires balanced leadership on the Board of County Commissioners. Brad’s experience handling of the day-to-day challenges of administering the County through emergency management (two fires and the Gold King mine spill) and difficult budget constraints is reflective of his leadership style and business acumen. His decision making is guided by a principle of thinking about the best long-term interests of La Plata County, no just short term costs and benefits.

Brad Blake is a long-time community member who stands firm for prosperity and forward-thinking decision making. He advocates for an accommodating land use code which enhances property values and improves property rights for landowners in La Plata County. Through pro-business and pro-county strategies, his goal is to collaborate with the main forces of our economy here in Southwest Colorado so that everyone can benefit.

Brad's traditional values and experience as a Durango local motivates him to help provide our future leaders and businesses with the ability to grow amd thrive in La Plata County for generations to come. Part of creating a thriving community is by protecting and managing our forests and environment, that’s why Brad has personally traveled to Washington D.C. to advocate for clean water, clean air and healthier forests.

Serving You

Brad Blake has proven to be a successful and passionate County Commissioner since 2015 when he took office. He is familiar with the day to day challenges of administering the county, such as tight budget constraints and improving efficiency. His business experience dates back to 1990 when he began his journey as a local businessman and since then, his dedication as a member of this community has not faltered. During crises such as devastating wildfires and the Gold King Mine Spill, Brad has fought side by side families and business owners for the prosperity of La Plata County.
