About Us...
The Adaptive Sports Association (ASA) is a non-for-profit organization located at the foot of the beautiful San Juan Mountains in historic Durango, Colorado. Since 1983, our mission has been to provide outdoor, sport and recreational experiences for people with physical or cognitive disabilities. These activities are provided regardless of individual financial limitations and create a safe, fun atmosphere for learning and enhancing self-esteem.
Winter adaptive programs at Purgatory Ski Resort:
- skiing with a broad range of specialized adaptive equipment
- snowboarding
- ski biking
Summer activities:
- river rafting (day trips on the Animas or multi-day trips on the Colorado or Green rivers)
- flat-water canoeing/kayaking on pristine mountain lakes and rivers
- accessible hiking
- rock climbing
- camping
- biking
- fishing
- water skiing
- veterans overnight camping and multi-day river trips
The programs at Adaptive Sports Association are designed not only for safe, productive recreation but more importantly as tools to facilitate vital changes and personal development within our students. It thrills us to watch our students become more self-confident and independent, then go on to achieve their maximum potential in many other areas of their lives as a result of their experiences with ASA programs.
