Our Mission

The mission of La Plata County Search and Rescue is to bring aid to those in need who are lost or injured in the backcountry. With a team of dedicated professionals who bring years of experience, we have the knowledge and the equipment to reach the most remote parts of La Plata County and assist local authorities in search and rescue situations.

How to Donate

La Plata County Search & Rescue is a non-profit organization that operates in conjunction with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office. Being a non-profit all of our funding comes from donations, grants, and our pancake breakfast during Snowdown.

How To Get Involved

Becoming a member of the LPCSAR team is not a commitment taken lightly; we are a group of highly skilled individuals who coordinate to aid people lost or injured in the backcountry. In order to be considered for LPCSAR:

  • Fill out an application
  • Attend at least six monthly meetings per year
  • Attend at least two trainings a year, as a participant or instructor
  • Be currently certified in CPR and First Aid
  • Have a current hiking certificate (CORSAR Card) or hunting/fishing license
  • Pay $12 in annual dues
