How to NOT be Stressed Out this Christmas
Christmas is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year. Don’t ruin your time by being overwhelmed with stresses that don’t matter! Here are some of our tips to keep you mellowed out.
You’re driving down main street and the holiday traffic is atrocious. Just when you think you’re about to find an escape, someone cuts you off. Instead of saying every cuss word imaginable, shout, “HAPPY HOLIDAYS”, as loud as you can. Like we said – spread some joy.
Don’t Be a Perfectionist
Instead of taking your time wrapping the one thousandth present this year, cut out a piece of paper, throw on some tape and call it good. BONUS: let your kiddos show you how wrapping a present is really done. Grandma won’t care what her present wrappings look like if her little bundle of joy of a grandkid did it.
Keep it PG
Instead of getting angry, stressing out and cussing up a storm when things inevitably aren’t going according to plan, make up a phrase to say when you need to release the frustrations. Take one from Buddy the Elf and say, “Son of a Nutcracker!” It’s festive, gets the job done and the more eggnog you drink, the funnier it gets.
Have a Dance Party
Carlton Banks, AKA the best dancer of all time, got it right. When something gets overwhelming to you, dance it out! Your in-laws may think it’s a bit weird, but let’s be honest, they already thought you were a weirdo anyways.
Remember: Your FAVORITE Family Member is Coming
You’re not supposed to pick favorites. It’s Christmas! But we all have that one member of the family that we just can’t wait to see. Whether the two of you are the life of the party, or you simply love splitting a bottle of wine with them, just remember that they will be bringing you JOY. Which is the most important part of this holiday season. If you forgot, maybe you need to read tip #1 again…
So you’re grabbing some last minute things you needed from the store. It’s Christmas Eve and everyone is elbowing and shoving their way through crowds to get the last gallon of eggnog on the shelf. Stop. Breathe. Smile. And wave to a random stranger and pretend like you know them. You may make them uncomfortable, but bonus points if you shout, “MERRY CHRISTMAS!”
Don’t Go Overboard
You’ve had the entire month to buy Christmas decorations. You do NOT need more. Take a note from Christmas Vacation– avoid the chaos and just sit back, relax and enjoy yourself.
Enthusiasm is Key
So you have a big family and you’ve been watching everyone open their presents for about an hour now. Hang in there. Pour yourself another glass of wine and try to look overjoyed when you open the 7th sweater you have been gifted this year.
Don’t be a Grinch
We know you’re exhausted, but that doesn’t mean you have the right to be a grinch. No one likes a grinch, so just don’t do it. If you are still grouchy after reading through this list then maybe you need to do a double take.
