Holidays at the Theatre: 3 Kid-Friendly Not-To-Miss Productions

"To be or not to be?" is no longer the question. The question is how in the world are you and the kids going to fit in all of these fantastic shows before they're gone?! Here are three awesome family-friendly theatre experiences you can't miss this holiday season:

"Annie, Jr."

Durango Arts Center, December 7-9, 15-16 at 7:00 p.m.; December 9 & 16 at 1:00 p.m.

"A child without courage is like a night without stars!" the beloved Punjab reminds America's favorite little redhead. Forty years after its Broadway debut, Annie makes her way to the DAC. The DAC's final show of the season stars over 60 students of the DAC Applause! performing arts program. Journey with Annie from a slum orphanage in 1930’s New York City to Daddy Warbuck's penthouse as Annie and friends work to escape the mean Miss Hannigan and her conniving brother, Rooster. Hum along to familiar tunes, like "Hard Knock Life," "Maybe" and  "Easy Street," as you recall that you actually aren't fully dressed without a smile and that, if you can't find your smile, the sun'll come out tomorrow. Enjoy this wonderful play decorated with nine Tony awards for the mere price of $12 for DAC members and $15 for general admission. To purchase tickets, click here. Call 970.259.2606 for more information.

"A Wrinkle in Time"

Found Space production at Bank of Colorado, Friday, December 1, 2, 7, 8, 9 at 7:00 p.m.; December 2, 9, 10 at 2:00 p.m.

"Believing takes practice," and you'll get plenty of practice at this Merely Players presentation of Madeleine L'Engle's heartwarming classic tale of an unlikely heroine, her remarkable brother and their exceptional pal. The story opens on a dark and stormy night when this trio sets off on a harrowing journey across space and time to rescue a brilliant scientist from the dangerous forces that hold him prisoner on another planet. This legendary adventure is spiced up with the theatrical magic that only the Merely Players can bring to the stage. Reserved seating. $25 tickets can be purchased at the Welcome Center or by clicking here.

State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara's "Nutcracker", featuring the San Juan Symphony

Community Concert Hall at FLC, December 8, 9 & 10 with two matinees and two evening performances

This Tchaikovsky masterpiece comes to life at the Community Concert Hall where your wide-eyed little ones will fall in love with classic characters and tunes that are guaranteed to sweep you back to those earliest Christmas memories. This great holiday tradition boasts the live orchestral talents of the San Juan Symphony as artistic director, Roodney Gustafson, holds true to the story and music of this timeless Victorian-era ballet. $26-$42 tickets can be purchased here.
