October Happenings Around Durango

October Events in Durango

It’s official. We have arrived to the first full month of fall. Summer is gone, winter is on the horizon, and we’re dancing in the delicate transitional phase of brisk weather and your favorite sweater. There’s several things that you most likely tend to think of when October rolls around; pumpkins, Halloween, Oktoberfests, seasonal beer, and classic autumn colors (we can’t forget that favorite sweater, either). Thanks to the season, we’ve got plenty of places and events to wear that fall sweater to.

Last Chance for Farm Fresh Fun - Saturdays until October 27th
The Durango Farmers Market last day is the last Saturday of the month.

Now that the air is getting colder, and the harvest season is coming to a close, so are our beloved farmers markets. Animas City Farmers Market and Night Bazaar will have its last night on October 17th, Durango Farmers Market will be done after October 27th, and many others will be closing this month. For a full list of the area’s farmers markets and their last days, check out this article. Make sure to show up and soak up the ambiance of a farmers market, and grab all the produce you can gobble up in the upcoming weeks. We’ll have to say goodbye and wait until next summer for another gathering of farmers and local-eaters.

Beer, Music, and Classic German Fun - Saturday, October 6th
Oktoberfest at Purgatory Ski Resort

What is the month of October without the German beer festivals? Oktoberfest has a massive lineup of breweries, live music, food, and vendors to make it an insane event. Show up at Purgatory this Saturday from 1-6pm for beer from Ska Brewing, Steamworks Brewing, Carver Brewing, and Animas Brewing. German-style brats will be served by Purgy’s and other food vendors like The Cavern Bar & Grill and Mountain Taco will be out serving up goods. An Old Time Photo booth and games from Conundrum Escape Room will be there to provide all the fun while sipping on your favorite lager. Can you think of a better way to start October? Probably not.

“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” - October 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21
PEANUTS™ The Great Pumpkin Patch Express with Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

With so many dates, there’s no reason to miss the PEANUTS™ Great Pumpkin Patch Express this fall. With live music, live reindeer, pumpkin patch maze, hay bale wagon rides and much more, this train experience from Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is a staple for little ones, teenagers, and adults. Sip on a beer or wine while watching the football kicking contest, and indulge in fresh treats from Fuzziwig’s Candy Factory after riding the train to the pumpkin patch. The Great American Cowboy - October 4th - 7th
Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering
