The Shamrock Express Train in Durango

It’s time to get your Irish on! With spring comes St. Patrick's Day, which means you have to pull out whatever green article of clothing you have in the back of your closet and get into the Irish spirit! The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad always knows how to put on a show, but for St. Patty’s day, the crew goes above and beyond. If you are lucky enough to have the day off on Friday, March 17th, then this is a must-attend event that you won’t want to miss.

WHY YOU HAVE TO GO…

The Shamrock Express train departs from Durango all the way through Cascade Canyon and deep into the San Juan National Forest. Obviously, you will need to get yourself decked out in St. Patty’s Day attire, but the train will also be COVERED in it to get you in the spirit!

THE FESTIVITIES…

For anyone needing to quench their thirst with a cold brew, a special selection of Guinness, the only beer one is allowed to drink on this holiday, will be available for purchase in first class cars as well as the concession car. Further, it’s not a true Irish celebration without music! The local Celtic musicians, Kitchen Jam Band, will be performing on the platform at the train depot before departure and then again at Cascade Canyon. Passengers will also be able to purchase a St. Patty’s inspired boxed lunch that consists of: sliced corn beer with Russian dressing slaw on rye bread, chips, fruit, a cookie and a bottle of water.
