The Weekender // September 14th - 16th

Like all weekends in Durango, there’s plenty going on to please everybody and enjoy every minute. This weekend is full of our precious green chili! Not to mention trail runs, local non-profit support opportunities, and one of the biggest art festivals that Durango offers - all this weekend. Pick one or pick them all, but definitely get some fresh-picked chilies!

Chili-Chasing & San-Juan-Supporting!
Chili Chase and Cook Off at Backcountry Experience

If you haven’t already checked this event out and started getting ready, head on over to our latest article that highlights the run, the chilies, and the amazing support for the Public Lands Conservation of our beloved San Juans. That’s three things that we Durango-tangs tend to love. Remember, the profits from the race support the San Juan Mountains Association!

Green Chilies Galore
Animas Green Chile Festival at Sutherland Farms

If you’ve ever spent any amount of time in our town, you know that we may go crazy about the green chilies. And, we tend to put them on everything (how could you not?). There’s no better way to get your full green chile fix than by heading out to the Animas Green Chile Festival this Saturday and Sunday. At the farm festival, you’ll get to enjoy live and local music, fresh vegetables hand picked for you from Sutherland Farms, and the chile-pickers themselves consistently bringing out the fresh greens to eat and cook with. The event starts at 10am and runs through 6pm on both days, giving you plenty of time to go out, meet the farmers, and enjoy the delicious green chile in the midst of harvest season.

Art in Autumn
24th Annual Durango Autumn Arts Festival at Durango Arts Center

This weekend, about 90 local artists will be gathering on Second Avenue to showcase their lovely work for us to enjoy, lining the streets eagerly sharing their creations. Our San Juan Mountain Region is home to artists who work hard creating diverse pieces that are ready for you to admire amidst the fall colors beginning to reveal themselves. Thanks to the Durango Arts Center, this event is free and is also dog-friendly! On average, this festival boasts around 6,000 visitors. Make sure you’re one of them!
