Animas River Cleanup
Come join the community of Animas River loving locals involved with rafting, fishing, and the outdoors this weekend at an Animas River Cleanup. This is the second cleanup hosted and sponsored this year by Artemis, Braided, and Duranglers, all of whom are bringing the community together for the care and stewardship of the local environment. The cleanup starts at 9 am this Saturday morning October 6th at Santa Rita Park and runs through 12 pm at Dallabetta. During those 3 hours, participants will be distributed down sections of the Animas to give the river the love that it needs. Throughout the cleanup, the City of Durango has agreed to continually pick up trash bags as they accumulate. During the last cleanup, “Over 50 bags of trash were collected,” mentioned Kara Armano. Last year, they had around 25 locals show up for the event, and this year they hope to double community participation.
After the cleanup, you can look forward to lunch provided by RGP and many fun prizes. Kara mentioned some of the prizes given in during the recent cleanup included, “oldest piece of trash, and largest piece of trash.” The event is open to everyone including kids, families, and even dogs! It’s a great way to get the family involved in helping maintain the community we call home.
The event’s main sponsor, Artemis, is a portion of the National Wildlife Federation, which focuses on bringing awareness to nature conservation in communities. Kara hopes to encompass this message with this fun event while bringing the Durango community together for our beloved Animas River.
