Welcome to the weekend, Durango! If you’re new to this town, or you’ve come to visit over the weekend, then you have the absolute best timing ever. Animas River Days is happening ALL. WEEKEND. LONG. The sun will be heating up our beloved little mountain town this weekend to a whopping 80 degrees, so it’s the perfect weekend to have some fun in the sun and cool off in the Animas River! If you want to just go hang out along the Animas at one of the beachy spots, then check out Oxbow Park. If you’re excited about all the action and activities that are happening all weekend for river days, then you need to keep reading to make sure you know exactly where to be and when. WHY you need to be there…

It’s finally summertime in Durango – why wouldn’t you want to be there?! The beauty of Animas River Days is you don’t have to watch the events happening if you don’t want to. Just go pick a spot anywhere along the Animas River and help us locals celebrate the commodity of water that runs through our town. If you want to watch all of the action, then be sure to keep reading to figure out when and where to be so you won’t miss out on a thing. 

Surfing the Smelter Rapid

The Location…

Most of the events of the annual Animas River Days celebration will be happening at Santa Rita Park in Durango, which is home of the Smelter Rapid– A.K.A where all of the action is! Make sure to get there early and pick a prime spot on the rocks so you can be sure to get a good view. Check out the stand-up paddling, river surfing, freestyle kayaking, boatercross, raft and kayak slalom, and of course, the local favorite, the costumed river parade. There will also be multiple vendors serving beers and food for your entertainment!

*NOTE: No Public Parking at Santa Rita Park on Sat., June 4th,  8 am to 8 pm

3:30 - 5:00 PM Rock Out with Team JK-- Women's rolling clinic with Jackson Kayak

5:00 - 8:00 PM Kick-Off Party & Silent Auction-- Live music and annual silent auction at Ska Brewing

9:00 PM Late Night Party-- Booty-shaking dance party with Posh Josh at El Rancho Tavern. No cover, drink specials!

11:00 - 12:00 PM Women's Freestyle Kayak

11:00 - 2:00 PM Ska Beer Garden Open

12:30 - 1:30 PM Men's Freestyle Kayak

*Food served Saturday, 8:00 am to 7:30 pm by Singletrack Cafe, Good on the Bun, Rang Tang BBQ, and Crazy Coop. Singletrack Cafe serves food from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm on Sunday.

 

Please help to make this a ZERO WASTE event! There will be: reusable pint glasses for sale, a Zero-Waste station, recycle trash bins throughout the park, encouragement of food vendors to also work towards using sustainable plates, cups and utensils, water fill station where people can stay hydrated by using their own water bottles and online registration and waivers for competitors and volunteers.
