Sip and Shop for a Cause

Local businesses are coming together for Women’s History Month and helping to support the women in need here in Durango. This Tuesday, Urban Market, Nature’s Oasis and many others are teaming up to raise funds for Durango’s Women’s Resource Center. To celebrate Women’s History month, there will be a wine tasting and shopping event where 15% of all proceeds go directly to the Women’s Resource Center.

Since they were founded in 1987, the WRC has strived to provide women with the tools, support, and resources needed to thrive in life. They focus on supplying women and their families in need with road maps to help them through tough times. The WRC helps women build connections, and get access to food, shelter, and health care, and provides support during financially and emotionally difficult times. The Center has grown from helping 200 women during their first year to now serving over 1,700 women in need.

The event will not only raise funds for the center but also provide information and remind the women in the are of the resources offered including legal and housing assistance. In a press release, Melissa Glick, founder and board president of the Professional Women’s Network of Durango mentioned, “It’s important to show our support of these resources to ensure they continue to remain available for all women in our community.”

The sipping and shopping fun begins promptly at 5pm at Urban Market where guests will be treated to their first tasting of wine. After a sip here and a sip there, appetizers will be served and the shopping will begin. Urban Market has tons of kitchenware and small home decor items from candles to pillows to dig into. Maybe get something special for an influential woman in your life to show her you appreciate all that she does. Whether you’re shopping for others or yourself, smile because you know you’re supporting the local women in need.
