Calling All Amateurs and Pros to the Ski Bike Festival
Who would have ever thought that combining skiing with biking could turn out to be one of the best decisions ever? The 17th annual Ski Bike Rally, hosted by Purgatory Mountain Resort, is happening this weekend, February 22nd - 23rd, 2020.
Why…It’s the Most Thrilling Way to Send it Down the Mountain
Ski biking is for all you bikers who just can’t seem to let go of the thrill of mountain biking in the winter, but you still love to hit the slopes in some fresh powder just as much as the rest of us! This weekend at Purgatory, even if you’ve never ski biked before in your life, the longest running ski bike festival in the country is the perfect opportunity to try something new! The massive ski biking community will show you just how exhilarating this sport is!
So...What’s All Happening Up on the Mountain for the Festival?
Look for the Ski Bike tent at the beach to meet up with everyone and get all the details about the weekend! There will be races and different jump contests if you just so happen to be feeling brave enough on Sunday to compete.
Here’s the schedule for races and jump contests:
- Mass Start Downhill: 9am on Styx. Be at Lift 1 between 8 and 8:30am for an early uplift so we can get started on an empty slope.
- Enduro: 12pm, meet at top of Lift 1. We’ll ride over together to the start at Divinity Flow Trail.
- Knuckle Huck: 2pm at Pitchfork Terrain Park.
If soaring in the air off of a jump or zipping down the slopes isn’t your thing, maybe gambling is. The poker run will be held starting Saturday morning. Pick up your poker card at the Ski Bike tent on the beach and stop at each venue to fill your card with all of the stamps. Return the card to the tent and you will be entered to win fun prizes!
New to Biking? No Problem!
Call the mountain to reserve a spot in beginner ski biker clinics! There will be two clinics held on Saturday at 10am and one at 1pm. Each clinic costs $49 and the clinic in the afternoon is a Freestyle class. There is also a package available for $98 that includes a full day bike rental, a 2-hour lesson and your certification. Ski biking is considered to be a sport that requires some sort of control over the “vehicle” that you are operating, so a certification saying you have mastered the art of the ski bike is required.
