The Weekender // August 9th-11th
The first full week of August comes to a close, and school is just around the corner. Get a jump on the fun by starting your activities earlier in the day with these afternoon monsoons (and temps in the lower 80s) still present through the weekend. Keep an eye on the sky [water vapor - Durango Weather Guy - Durango - Bayfield - Ignacio - Vallecito Lake] and go for it! It’s time to get outside and enjoy what Durango has to offer! Here are a few of the fun events in store this weekend.
Proud of the Past, Poised for the Future - August 7-11, 2019
La Plata County Fair at the La Plata County Fairgrounds
For years the county fair has been the place to be for delicious food, the demolition derby, live music, livestock and more; this year is no exception as Chevel Shepherd, the Farmington native and winner of The Voice, headlines this year’s fair with a concert on Friday August 7 at 7:00pm! This year's gathering of all things homespun, homebred and homestead-like just kicked off yesterday, August 7. There is something for all ages too. If you’ve read Charlotte's Web with the kids then the area of prized pigs, goats, rabbits, cows, and spiders is perfect for you! And we’re just kidding about the spiders. Throughout the fairgrounds, there will be carnival rides and a whole talent contest on Friday at 7 pm! The list of things to do goes on and on so check out our event post to learn more.
Bows, Arrows, and Plenty of Targets - Saturday, August 10th
Starting at 10 am this Saturday is the last 3D Archery Shoot in a summer-long series hosted by the Vallecito Conservation and Sporting Association (VCSA). After registering at 9 am you will be pushed to grow your archery skills on 15+ 3D targets at Cool Water Ranch just a few miles south of the dam at Vallecito Lake. This event is for members of the VCSA but anyone can become a member for just $25 the morning of the event. Open to all ages makes this a fun way to start the weekend with the whole family!
The PlayFest Theater Arts Festival - August 6-11, 2019
Durango Playfest at various venues in downtown Durango
Every year Durango PlayFest brings nationally recognized theater artists to Durango for a week of workshops and performances for the whole community to experience. These events use the best venues that Durango has to offer. The events carry on throughout the day Friday and all weekend. Make sure to check out the full schedule here to see when and where you might want to be this weekend!
