Durango’s holiday traditions and winter festivities are starting to roll in this weekend, bringing lots of fun, memories, and adventures to Durango locals and tourists. There’s a lot to choose from whether you’re looking to brace the cold or avoid it at all costs.
Noel Night - Friday, December 7th
Swing by the Durango winter tradition, Noel Night! The sales typically run throughout the day, and the festivities begin at 6pm. You’ll find not only great holiday deals and gift ideas, but also lots of holiday cheer! Some stores will feature live holiday music, while others will have free samples and winter deals. There will be caroling, warm winter drinks, and lots of holiday festivities at Durango’s favorite holiday party! Shop local and celebrate the season with Durango this Friday. This event is great for anyone looking to have a an extra festive night.

Bizarre Bazaar - Friday - Sunday, December 7th-9th
Adventure into the Bizarre Bazaar this weekend for tons of holiday deals and handmade gifts for your friends, family, or even yourself! This Durango tradition brings 23 local artists to sell their handmade creations. This 6th annual event features a unique cross between a holiday and Turkish Bazaar and is a great place to buy unique one of a kind gifts. Give the gift of local art this year and purchase directly from the local artists themselves. The event runs Friday night and throughout the weekend giving you plenty of time to stop by. This event would be ideal for those looking to find unique gifts and support local artists.
The Nutcracker Ballet - Friday - Sunday, December 7th-9th
The State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara invites you and your family to witness The Nutcracker Ballet at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College. You’re not going to want to miss this performance featuring live music by the San Juan Symphony. This victorian production based on the adapted holiday classic, “The Story of a Nutcracker” is suited for all ages and fun for the entire family. The holiday classic will premiere with two evening shows on Friday and Saturday and two matinee shows on Saturday and Sunday. This event is perfect for those looking to sit back, relax, and enjoy a holiday classic while staying inside during this cold weekend.
Hitting up the Mountain - All Weekend
As of today, Purgatory has opened 17 of their 101 trails and has accumulated 26 inches of packed powder. They’re hoping to receive a few more inches with the snow storm currently coming in today. Wolf Creek’s base has grown to 39’’ with more to come today. All 120 trails are open for shredding this weekend with 8/10 lifts open. Telluride’s base currently sits with 34’’ of snow and is expected to gain a few more inches throughout the day. They’ve opened 21 of their 148 trails with seven lifts operating. Shred on!
