The Weekender // February 28th - March 1st, 2020
Welcome to the weekend Durangatangs! This time last year we had about a foot of snow blanketing the town and we could all thoroughly enjoy our favorite winter recreational activities. The lack of white water flakes falling from the sky is not necessarily all bad, we can still enjoy being outside with anticipation for spring! February has come and gone so fast, but don’t be discouraged, there are plenty of events happening this weekend that will officially bid February a goodbye with a bang! Take leap year into account, take advantage of the extra day and make the most of it. Here are the top three events you just can’t miss this weekend. Check it out!
Epic Mountain Adventure Films
Friday and Saturday, 6pm - 9pm
Combine suspenseful adventuring, environmental awareness, nature appreciation and mountain culture and you get the Banff Mountain Film Festival. This is a two-day running film festival featuring completely different films both nights, so you won’t want to miss either out on either night. The proceeds from this event will go towards help keeping Wolf Creek pass wild. Not only do you get to watch awesome footage of the outdoor explorations from all around the world, but also there will be chances to win cool gear, gift cards, classes and unforgettable adventures in the raffle and silent auction. Sponsored by Rocky Mountain Wild and San Juan Citizens Alliance. Tickets are $15 per night and are available for purchase here for Friday night and here for Saturday night.
Friday, 5pm - 7:30pm
What’s your drink of choice-- beer, whiskey or water? Come enjoy all three at The Powerhouse Science Center on Friday! Water is quite possibly one of the most vital resources we have on earth and Rocky Mountain PBS, the Four Corners Water Center at Fort Lewis College and the Powerhouse Science Center have partnered together to discuss the importance of this resource. The goal is to get people talking about the community wide and statewide issues involved with water. Learn something new about water and have a beer or a whiskey from Carvers Brewing Company, Steamworks Brewing Company and/or Honeyhouse Distillery to get the conversation started! Beer and whiskey will be available for taste tests for free and also available for purchase. Can’t attend this event? Rocky Mountain PBS would love if you could take the time to fill out their survey regarding water issues; just click this link!
The Secret Circus Society
Saturday, 8pm - 10pm
What is Vaudeville? It’s basically a 19th century French way of saying a diverse range of talent displayed in the form of a show. So, yes, it’s an old timey vintage-style talent show! Hosted by the Secret Circus Society, this show will feature everything from musicians, to comedians, to circus performers, to dancers and more! This is an interactive show so come prepared with your best judging glasses on! Durango’s best of the best will be performing, so you don’t want to miss it! Tickets are available for purchase here.
