The Weekender // May 3rd - 5th
Out of the 52 weekends in a year, this one will go down in history. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad will bring back its treks to Silverton, there will be wine-tastings galore, local business celebrations, and skiing in May. Yes, you read that right. Bring that winter gear out of storage, celebrate with the town on Saturday morning, and then hit the slopes in the afternoon!
(Pssst. If you'd like a full list of events going on in the month of May, both locally and regionally, check out this article!)
Celebrating North Main
The (North) Main Event
As the North Main Corridor begins to transform into its own bustling part of town, it deserves to be celebrated. Join the party this Saturday from 11am - 4pm as the nearly 40 businesses between 26th and 30th host their own celebrations, such as Durango Outdoor Exchange hosting their Grand Opening Celebration! North Main will be lined with food, music and family-friendly activities for everyone to enjoy. The first 100 attendees will receive a reusable shopping bag filled with swag from local businesses!
Wine, Wine, and more Wine
Durango Wine Experience
From Thursday at 10:00am through Sunday at 11:00am, keep your eyes peeled for all the events which mark the unofficial start to the summer festival season in Durango. The nonprofit hosts this annual event with educational seminars, downtown Durango wine tastings, and the Grand Tasting on Saturday. Hundreds of wines are featured alongside local chefs whipping up appetizers. Get your tickets and get ready to sip the weekend away!
Return to Silverton
Narrow Gauge Day
Another season of train operation between Durango and Silverton is underway for the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad! The first ride of the year happens this Saturday at 8:45am. To celebrate the train’s operation since 1882, come out to celebrate Narrow Gauge Day on Friday. Head to the train depot for grilled hot dogs, choo-choo cookies from Jeanna Pierre’s, live music from Bar D Wranglers, and tours!
Skiing In May
It’s May, and Purgatory Ski Resort is open this Saturday. Not for biking, but for skiing! For the first time in history, the resort will be open for skiing. The first 100 people who make it to the lift line will be given a free t-shirt. Food and drink specials will be available all day at the Bear Bar, and DJ Noonz will be playing on the beach starting at 12:30! Feel free to dress up - hawaiian shirts and sunscreen are always welcome.
