This weekend, it’s all about giving back in Durango. There’s a lot of events going on this weekend, and they all have one common theme: supporting the local community. Whether you’re looking to see a cult classic musical comedy, participate in silent auctions, or just drink some wine there’s ways to support the community we all love.
Bark and Wine - Saturday, November 10th
We all know the great things the La Plata Humane Society does for Durango animals in need. Just last week, they took in 50 dogs from an overcrowded shelter in Texas. Want to help and get involved with this great non-profit? Come join the La Plata Humane Society and over 300 pet lovers from the Durango community for the 11th annual Bark & Wine Fundraiser Gala. This Durango tradition is one of the Humane Society’s largest events and raises money and local support for animals in need. The event will feature live and silent auctions, a photo booth, presentation of the Animal Advocate of the Year, dinner, desserts, cash bars, music and fun! Stop by the Fort Lewis College Grand Ballroom from 6pm-9pm to celebrate the La Plata county animals.
Mountainfilm Tour - Saturday, November 10th
Don’t miss out on one of the best adventure film festivals in the world, the 10th Annual Mountainfilm on Tour! Be sure to stop by Durango Nature Studies on Saturday to witness some of the best adventure films of the year. This year’s film festival features a silent auction and special guest speakers. All proceeds from the event will support our local environmental education programs. There’s a family friendly showing at 2pm with five films appropriate for young adventures, and two showings at 5pm and 8:30 pm with 10 thrilling adventures. Tickets can be purchased online or at Backcountry Experience and they range from $5-$15.
Girls on the Run - Saturday, November 10th
What’s the best way to stay warm as the temperatures start dropping in Durango? Run a 5k! Head over to Three Springs this Saturday at 9 am for the Girls on the Run of Western Colorado 5k. Girls on the Run is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl and woman knows and acts on her limitless potential and is inspired to follow her dreams. All proceeds and donations from the event will go directly to the Girls on the Run of Western Colorado. Participants can register online here and are encouraged to arrive at 9 am. The race itself begins at 10am outside the Alpine Bank.
9-5 The Musical - Friday & Saturday, November 9th-10th
Durango High School Troupe 1096 presents 9-5 The Musical! Come see the light hearted, funny, and uplifting musical about three women working at Consolidated Industries. The play is based on the 1980’s musical movie with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick. There are showings both Friday and Saturday night at 7pm, and a matinee on Saturday at 2pm. Tickets can be bought online for $15 as well as flower voutures to be given to the students after the play.
