The Weekender // Sept. 27th - 29th
Your daily walk/bike to work is starting to feel a bit more bitter than a couple weeks ago, isn’t it? This Monday was the official first day of Fall, and the weather is following suit. Here’s a list of weather resources we routinely check to keep an eye on the sky - Durango Weather Guy, National Weather Service for Durango, Bayfield, Ignacio, and Vallecito Lake. The cold is nowhere near unbearable yet, so there’s still plenty of time to get outside and enjoy our little pocket of paradise. Here’s a few fun and engaging events in store for this weekend!
Celebrating Pine River Valley History - Friday Night and All Day Saturday
It’s gonna be a wild and woolly weekend in Bayfield! Head to the Pine River Valley to celebrate the living history of Southwest Colorado for the 20th annual Bayfield Heritage Days and Sheep Training. On Friday night, a pork dinner catered by Back Porch BBQ will be served at The South Street Gym. Bright and early Saturday morning at 8am, a 5k will kick off the festivities! Prepare for the running of the sheep at Buck Highway at 9am, and then head over to Mill Street right after to catch the parade. After the parade, join the rest of the community at Joe Stephenson Park for live music, kid’s activities, and hay wagon rides. Keep an eye out for The Coffee Merchant during the event to get your dose of freshly brewed java or tea! The event sponsors encourage you to remember that sometimes the sheep have a mind of their own, so all times are approximate. For more information click here.

Blazin' Through Autumn in the San Juans - Saturday, 7:30am-5pm
Looking for the perfect ride that also supports local college cyclists? The Durango Fall Blaze is “not a race -- it's a chance for FLC community members, supporters, friends, alumni, students, staff, and anyone else who just loves to ride to enjoy a fun and safe scenic group tour through the autumn colors of southwestern Colorado.” With three rides - 37, 60, and 100 miles - there’s a ride for everyone, and each rider (plus family and friends!) are invited to the post-ride party at the clocktower from 11am-5pm. Riders receive food and beverage at no charge, and others will pay $10 at the gate. All proceeds benefit the Fort Lewis College Cycling Scholarship Fund.
