The-Weekender // Sept. 13th - 15th
This weekend: We’ve got new beer. We’ve got fresh, local produce. We’ve got live music in the mountains. We’ve got a spicy 10k and a love for our San Juan Mountains. The only thing you need to add to this lineup is either a day on the river or on the slopes (or both, ‘cause after this summer, we know that these can happen on the same day), and we’ve got ourselves everything a Durangatang needs to survive. Whether you already have spectacular plans for the weekend, or you were hoping to just hang out on the couch, add these to your calendar!
Winter Hops for your Tastebuds - TONIGHT, 5pm
The Mexican Logger had its heyday this summer, with plenty of consumed limes to go with it. And yet, toasting your drinks to a fall day in the San Juans just wouldn’t be right without Ska’s infamous winter-seasonal beverage. Tonight, you can get your hands on all the Euphoria Pale Ales you’d like (always drink responsibly, folks). What better way to ring in the cold season?
Live Music in the Mountains - Friday, 4pm - 7pm
If the Ska Release Party isn’t enough for you, head to The Nugget Mountain Bar on Friday night for live music by Red Eyed Djinn, craft beers on tap, $2 PBR’s all day, and a cozy seat next to the campfire and creek. One half-mile south of Purgatory, The Nugget Mountain Bar is nestled into the mountains with picturesque views. Bring a sweater, and get ready to embrace the cozy night of live music in the autumn air.
Run for the Mountains, Eat for the Fun - Sat, 8:30am - 4pm
This year’s Chili Chase features a course over the infamous Hogsback Trail and through Overend park, with 1,124 feet of elevation gain! All proceeds benefit San Juan Mountains Association’s efforts to promote local public lands conservation. Co-hosting the event is Backcountry Experience, who will be throwing the cook-off featuring over 20 dishes from local businesses. Runners get free entry into the cook-off! Learn more and get registered.
Living History - Sat, 10am - 3pm
This Saturday, you’ll be able to enjoy a day of La Plata County Living History. With living historians, sheep to shawl exhibits, children’s games and crafts, and local agriculture and food, the Animas Historical Museum is bringing our local past to life. Plus, you’ll get the opportunity to sample the brand new Ska Brewing & Animas Museum Heritage collaboration beer: Kellenberger’s Raspberry Julep!
