Santa Says, "Tis the Season to Shop Local"
While Santa Claus is busy making his list and checking it twice, you can bet your bottom dollar he's not shopping Amazon this year. Whether you're looking for rudy-toot-toots or rummy-tum-tums, chances are Durango's got 'em, so keep your money close to home this year. Take advantage of these upcoming local shopping opportunities to stick it to the Man and side with the Big Guy in Red:
12 Days of Shop Local
On the first day of 12 Days of Shop Local, my true love gave to me...a chance to sing with Santa! The rest of the days (from Black Friday, November 24, till Tuesday, December 5) is a flurry of surprise deals, opportunities to wave your local flag, search for the elusive Toy Train, donate to local nonprofits, stock up on the latest and greatest Be Local Coupon Book and get caught with a shopping bag in your hands somewhere downtown for your chance to win a $50 gift card to a local business. For more details, you must checkout the most adorable website page I've seen today.
Winter Solstice Market
The Durango Arts Center is proud to host the Invitational Artisans Winter Solstice Market from November 24 till December 23. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m., and features over 40 invited regional artists. Discover original fine arts and crafts, such as ceramics, metal, textiles, wood, glass, calendars, jewelry, painting, drawing, photography and so much more.
Noel Night 2017
After the Missionary Ridge Fire in 2002, the community was pretty bummed. As the holidays rolled around, folks decided it was time for a pick-me-up, so downtown businesses rallied to host Noel Night. Sixteen seasons later, this community-wide Christmas Party thrives with over 100 downtown Durango businesses touting the (loving) war cry to buy your holiday presents locally, for crying out loud!
On Friday, December 1, from 10:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m., mix and mingle with friends and family as you find one-of-a-kind gifts from local merchants who are pleased as punch to offer discounts, deals, raffles, live music, entertainment, treats, sweets, beverages and so much more! Check out the Durango Herald on November 25 for details, or visit the Local First website for more information.
Noel Night is also proud to unveil the latest addition to this most festive soiree: the official Noel Night Mug! Replete with the world-renowned "poinsanta" graphic from Studio & mastermind, Tim Kapustka, the Noel Night Mug is available at participating stores around downtown during Noel Night. So forego sipping from multiple paper and plastic cups, and, even if you don't buy the official Noel Night Mug, consider bringing your own jolly mug!
Studio &'s 5th Annual Bizarre Bazaar
Local artist collective, Studio &, welcomes the public to their beloved gallery at 1027 Main Ave for a weeklong bazaar perfectly spiced as a combo holiday and Turkish bazaar. Peruse art, crafts, games, cards, photography, clothing, jewelry and more made by 25 local artists. The Bizarre Bazaar takes place Friday, December 1, till Saturday, December 9 (open everyday 10:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3). 43rd Annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Festival
Creative folks from around the Four Corners set up shop at the La Plata County Fairgrounds on Friday, December 1, from 10:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. for the 43rd Annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Festival. Whether you're shopping for the fly fisherwoman in your life, need a gift for Fido or are simply trying to find something that the grandkids would never pick out for themselves in a million years, the Festival has it.

For something truly special with historical pizzazz, visit the Animas Museum on Friday, December 1, from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 2, from 9:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. for the Old-Fashioned Christmas Bazaar.
