Transport Specialist

Job Description:

At Open Sky, the Transportation Specialist is part of an integrated team that delivers powerful and transformative therapeutic experiences for students and their families, embracing the belief that all people have the capacity to thrive. Primary responsibilities of the position include welcoming new students, assisting with admissions paperwork, transporting students to Open Sky’s Mancos facility to collect gear and other required items, and delivering students to the Open Sky base camps in Utah and Colorado. The Transportation Specialist ensures that students are greeted and escorted through the first-day admissions process in compliance with all safety standards and in alignment with the Open Sky Culture Pathway. The Transportation Specialist also transports students for medical and other purposes while they are enrolled in the program.

This position typically serves as the junior member of a two-person team when transporting students. This provides an opportunity for the Transportation Specialist to learn Open Sky's transport procedures and gain experience dealing with a variety of situations. Depending on staffing needs, Transportation Specialists can earn a promotion to Lead Transportation Specialist and then Senior Transportation Specialist. This position requires the ability to maintain composure and de-escalate potentially stressful situations. Shifts are generally 8-12 hours, four days per week, and there are opportunities for overtime pay. Daily start time and end time will vary depending on student arrival time and other factors.

. Requirements:
Education/Training, Experience

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Skills, Licenses, Certifications

First Aid and CPR certification (within the last year) is strongly preferred. Obtain de-escalation and therapeutic holds certification. Obtain medication administration certification. Must be 21 years old. Have an acceptable driving record and valid driver’s license. Complete DMV release for inquiry and review of driving record. Pass pre-employment physical and drug screening. Pass Colorado, Utah, and FBI background checks. Review and sign the Utah Provider Code of Conduct. Provide certified college transcripts, if applicable.

Physical Demands

Must be able to hear and talk with other people in person and using phone and radio. Must be able to use office technology including a computer and related equipment. This position sometimes requires strenuous physical activity including, but not limited to, walking on uneven terrain, hiking up to 15 miles per day, carrying a 55+ pound backpack, and hiking at high altitude (above 5000 feet). Must be able to run at a fast pace for short to extended periods in pursuit of another and must be able to apply therapeutic holds. Employee must be able to perform these activities despite severe temperatures and adverse weather conditions.

Work Environment

Work is performed in office and outdoor settings with frequent interaction with other people. Employee may be exposed to environmental conditions such as extreme weather, noise, and vibration, and employee may be exposed to infectious diseases. Work involves functioning in narrow aisles or passageways. Employee will be working with students who have acute mental, emotional, and behavioral healthcare needs. Employee may drive and ride in Open Sky vehicles in support of program activities.

Additional Requirements

Pass Colorado and Utah background checks. Pass annual Utah background check. Review and sign annual Utah Provider Code of Conduct.


Actual starting wage commensurate with experience.
