Studio Art/Makerspace Teacher Job Description

Responsibilities:

Maintain and enrich their expertise in project based learning with choice based studio art products utilized to accelerate student engagement;
Demonstrate a growth mindset with Studio Art and digital media innovation with blending emerging technologies; (laser cutting, 3D printing, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator with art design)
Value interdisciplinary projects that incorporate advanced technology and challenge existing thinking. We value being at the foreground of experimentation and exploration, fostering collaboration across science, engineering and humanities;
Incorporate contemporary visual arts, creativity and culture, design and innovation. Blend rigorous art, design and media programs;
Inspire future leaders by equipping our students with the skills and capacity for creative thinking so they can make their critical mark on the world with art and technology;
Utilize teaching the latest methods, underpinned by leading-edge technology and an innovative learning environment to inspire a new generation of creative makerspace artful thinkers;
Evaluate students’ progress on an ongoing basis with weekly grade book updates;
Provide an inviting, exciting, innovative, learning environment;
Lead the curation of student work throughout the school;
Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management;
Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff and teachers;
Lead an advisory, Intersession and SIG elective class;
Perform other duties, as deemed appropriate, by the Head of School;

Qualifications:

Qualified with studio art and makerspace technology;
Demonstrated expertise in the subject they will teach, as evidenced by personal skills and knowledge, an undergraduate major or minor or graduate degree in the subject they will teach, or direct subject-area teaching experience;
Demonstrated communication skills and growth mindset;
Demonstrated ability and experience to engage the interest of middle school-age children;
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse children, including those with special needs;
Teaching experience in a public or private school;
Demonstrated ability to work well with parents and community members;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member with co-workers;
Demonstrated willingness to be held accountable for student results;

In our Art Studio & our Makerspace we create an environment where students themselves can direct the outcomes they achieve, they are no longer just consumers
The Makerspace allows freedom for experimentation and a hands on making experience
The Makerspace operates under the presumption that through collaboration we can fill any gaps in our knowledge base
Through collaborative making the gaps between Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design and Mathematics dissolve
The Makerspace is a flexible environment designed to promote collaboration and adapt to multiple methods of making and feeds into activities in our Core classes.

Our Makerspace currently incorporates the following equipment:

Kiln and potter's wheels for clay projects
Laser cutters
3D Printers
Photo and poster printer
Woodshop tools
Studio Art supplies
Chromebook computers, iPAds and software for 3D modeling, laser cutting, Adobe photoshop, iMovie, and Adobe Illustrator
Vinyl cutter
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $37,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
